WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with air bags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System ( SRS) before attempting any side curtain air bag service. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.Move both front seats to the forward end of travel position, fully recline both front seat backs, lower the rear seat backrests down, and ensure the lift gate is open before disconnecting the battery.The following special tools are required to perform this repair: Manage the original side curtain air bag inflators using locally approved methods, so that they are properly scrapped. Separation of the cushion and inflator could potentially result in an incomplete deployment or a nondeployment of the air bag which can reduce occupant protection in the event of a crash, resulting in an increased risk of injury to motor vehicle occupants. A damaged SABIC clamp may allow the cushion and inflator to separate during a SABIC deployment. Some of the above vehicles may have been built with a Side Air Bag Inflatable Curtain (SABIC) assembly with an improperly crimped clamp. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Federal law requires you to complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Vehicles impacted by a stop sale are eligible for reimbursement allowance through the Recall Floorplan Reimbursement Policy (RFPRP), which can be requested upon recall claim submission. Stop sale is in effect for the above-identified vehicles. We are careful to engage the plastic snap clips in the mirror supports.VINs identified as being involved in this campaign are currently live and searchable. We press on the locking clips to disconnect the mirror cover, replace the damaged piece with the new one.
